Northeast Coast of North America from New England to Virginia. Justus Danckerts (1635-1701)Novi Belgii Novaeque Angliae Nec Non Pennsylvaniae et partis Virginiae Tabula multis in locis emendata. Amsterdam: Danckerts, 1683. Large double-folio hand-colored copperplate map; with an inset view of the small Dutch colony on Manhattan Island, the second published view of New York, after Hartger's view of 1651, second issue; based upon Jansson's map of 1650, with vignettes of indigenous animals and peoples, with the addition of the view of New Amsterdam, showing the Battery, a windmill, and Dutch buildings on the waterfront; the view was originally drawn between 1653 and 1655, because subsequently a wall was built around the Manhattan settlement that does not appear in the image; this is the first issue to mention Philadelphia; framed, 23 1/2 x 20 1/2 in.
