Comprised of letters Bossu wrote to the Marquis de L'Estrade describing his life and travels in Louisiana 1751-1762. He was imprisoned in France and his book banned for critical comments against the ministry. Howes B626; Streeter 1518; Clark II:5; Meisel III:349; Sabin 6465. Streeter Sale 1518: "Bossu wrote well and his letters not only give an interesting picture of life in the Mississippi Valley and Mobile Country to the east at the beginning of the second half of the eighteenth century, but incorporated also are many sketches of events in preceding years."
