Left hand drive. Porsche introduced the 356B model in the fall of 1959 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new car actually had a new body (the T5) incorporating subtle changes over the 356A it superseded. The car was more purposeful, with even higher performance available from the Super 90 engine. Customers had three styles to choose from, coupe, convertible or roadster. By 1961 Porsche introduced a further body change with the T6, featuring a modified nose, wider front lid and fuel-filler opening placed on the front wing. At the rear the car now had twin grille air intakes rather than a single intake. As always they were strong in competition and sales were helped when Dan Gurney won the 1962 Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. (France) in a Porsche 904, Porsche's first GP victory. This is a 1962 356B Roadster and is ultra-rare as only 248 twin-grille roadsters were built in that year. The car has full matching numbers and was first delivered on 29 January 1962 according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity provided with the car. The ID number is 89778. The car has recently been restored by marque specialists and this included a fabulous repaint in black and a full retrim with tan leather upholstery. Optional equipment from new includes reclining front seats. The engine is the Super with 75bhp so performance is excellent. The car has all correct instruments and a sports steering wheel, tonneau cover and correct wheels. Ken Purdy wrote in Playboy magazine that a Porsche 356B "may be the most fun to drive of anything in the world.
