OTTO PRUTSCHER (1880–1949) A SUITE OF SEATING FURNITURE Starting price: 140 000 CZK (5 600 EUR) Hammer price: 170 000 CZK (6 800 EUR) Description period: Around 1915; Austria-Hungary, Vienna Stained, varnished beechwood, upholstered. Sofa: 87 × 120 × 59 cm Four chairs: 87 × 57 × 53 cm Table: 80 × 69 cm A furniture suite designed by Otto Prutscher who was a major designer of the Vienna Secession. He started as an interior designer, drawing inspiration from the work of J. Hofmann, one of his closest collaborators. In 1912 he became a founding member of the Austrian Werkbund and was a core designer of Wiener Werkstätte. He focused on creating a certain mood, attempting to provide buildings with a comprehensive, cohesive appearance – from the architecture to the complete interior furnishings, a “Gesamtkunstwerk” in the spirit of the late Secession and Art Deco.
