Title: Photo album of women pilots in the 1930s, including early members of the "ninety-nines" Author: Place: California (mostly) Publisher: Date: c.1930-35 Description: Approximately 105 photographs, various sizes, most 2½x4½". Tipped to the pages of a period photo album with paper corners, some loose. A superb album of early aviation history, largely documenting women pilots in the western U.S. Includes snapshots at various locations including Mills Field in San Francisco in 1930 and 1931, San Francisco Municipal Airport 1932, Long Beach 1931, Glendale Airport 1932, Santa Monica 1932, the 1933 Los Angeles Air Races, etc. There are a few photos taken while in flight. The participants are largely identified in ink on the photographs, many of the women pictured were original or early members of the women's flying organization "The Ninety-Nines" (founded by Amelia Earhart and others). One of the pilots, Ruth Marshall, appears in a large number of the images and the album was likely assembled by her in the 1930s. Lot Amendments Condition: Fine. Item number: 267019
