Venice: Giunta press, 1565. 2 o (316 x 212 mm). 7 folding maps and plans and woodcut illustrations and maps in text (some light dampstaining to upper margins). Contemporary Saxonian blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards by the court binder of the Elector of Saxony JAKOB KRAUSE the upper cover stamped with the initials A[ugust] H[erzog] Z[u] S[achsen] C[hurfuerst] and the date 1576, the central stamp of the coat of arms of Saxony, the lower cover with the central stamp of the coat of arms of Denmark, surrounded by 3 rool tolls, including the Salvator rool with the initials "IK" (some rubbing). Provenance : Siegfried von Luttich (early gilt coat-of-arms stamped on upper cover). Second edition of the third volume, of the earliest and most important systematic collection of travels and voyages of the 16th century this volume dealing with the discoveries in America. The woodcut maps reengraved for this edition, after the first woodcuts were destroyed by a fire in 1557.
