For another example of a nearly identical pommel, probably by the same maker, see plate 118.S on page 101 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. This sword has a slightly curved American made blade in the English style with two fullers and a false edge. There is a silver ferrule at the top of the blade followed by a silver four slot pierced and scalloped guard decorated with gadrooned borders and shell designs. A silver chain guard is attached with a ring at both the guard and the mouth of lion head pommel. The sheet silver lion's head pommel shows engraved details and has a silver capstan on top. The ivory grip is decorated by a thin strip of spiraling silver. CONDITION: Blade retains a brown patina with scattered "battle" nicks to the edge. Silver retains a pleasing grey surface, showing some marks from use. Grip retains a nice honey patina with some hairline age cracks, one side darker from light exposure.
