Sandeman Royal Esmeralda half-litre (1) An unblended Sherry from the Solera 1894 . The name of this solera refers to the year in which the first wine lots for it were acquired by the Company. In that year, Albert George Sandeman persuaded Don Antonio Bernaldo de Quirs, one of the most reputed growers at that time, to sell him his entire stock of anadas - unblended wines of individual vintages - made between 1872 and 1882 at his Carrascal vineyard. The Solera 1894 has been kept since then in Sandeman's bodega El Corregidor , in Jerez. Very limited quantities have been drawn on extrtaordinary occasions and only selected wines from Sandeman's lots of old fino sherries are occasionally chosen to refresh the younger criaderas . A superb example of one of the most striking Sherry styles. It has a dark amber colour with golden shades, and a complex nose, where the pungent notes of the original fino wines were gradually softened over the years, creating a deeper, more fragrant wine. On the palate it is clean and full, dry yet very smooth and light. Royal Corregidor half-litre (1) This is a traditional Oloroso , drawn from one of the most famous soleras of this type of wines, the Solera VVO . AS in the case of Royal Esmeralda, the first lots for this solera were also part of the purchase made by Albert George Sandeman to Don Antonio Bernaldo de Quirs in 1894. The initially dry olorosos have been blended with very old Pedro Ximnez sweet Sherry from the Sandeman's Old P.X. Solera . Once made, the blend is again laid down to age in oak barrels ( botas ) for an extra maturation of minimum two years inw hat is known as "shipping solera". The wine has an appealing mahogany colour and a deep, complex aroma, where the intense raisin notes of the Pedro Ximnez sweet wines combine with the smoothness typical of the very old olorosos. It is extraordinary rich to the palate, velvety in the mouth and has an extremely long aftertaste where all its aromatic complexity comes back, in innuendoes that involve all the senses. Royal Ambrosante half-litre (1) This is a rare, pure Pedro Ximnez from Sandeman's Old P.X.Solera. The origin of the solera has been traced back to 1909 the same year in which the Royal Warrant of George V was granted to the firm. Mr. Walter J. Buck, Sandeman's manager in Jerez at that time and partner of the firm since 1879, shared the interest of Albert George Sandeman for searching and acquiring lots of exceptional wines from individual growers. Among them, there was a small lot of five botas of sweet Sherry from sun-dried grapes that constituted the base for this solera. Its dark, opaque mahogany colour, and deep raisin aromas speak about the very long ageing of this Sherry. The traditionally sun-dried Pedro Ximnez grapes. It is both smooth and sweet in the mouth, and yet full and vigorous. Balanced to perfection, its apparant density advances a most pleasing, complex and very long aftertaste. Above 3 half-litres per lot
