SCOTTISH AUTHORS]. BURNS, ROBERT. Incomplete autograph letter to "Sir" (probably a Mr. McLeod), n.p., n.d. [after 18 June 1794], 2 pages, 4to, both sides of same sheet, end of text and signature missing, margins trimmed, inlaid with some letters on verso obscured : "I send you by the Fly, my friend Stewart's estimate of the Carse Estate...He says, and he says it with truth, that we shall let it to a good Tenantry for more than his estimate..."; Burns has dined with [Patrick] Miller of Dalswinton [from whom Burns rented the farm Ellisland],"...ci-devant Partner with Ramsay the Banker...he is so eager to have you for his Neighbor...All his fine wood and wooded banks on the other side of the river, which form so large a portion of the beauties of Carse..." Autograph letter signed to "Dear Sir" (probably the publisher William Strahan), Aberdeen, 3 May 1786, one page, 4to, tipped to larger sheet, a tear in blank area repaired on verso, mainly concerning his book Evidences of Christianity (published in 1786): "...It surprises me that the Evidences have not yet reached London; Mr. Creech says it is almost a month since they sailed from Leith. They may be advertised the moment they arrive...Inclosed is a list of persons, to each of whom Mr Cadell will be so good to send a copy of the Evidences in my name..."--RICHARDSON, WILLIAM (1743-1824, Glasgow professor and critic). Autograph letter signed to "Dear Sir," Glasgow College, 29 March 1774, 2 pages, 4to, remnants of mounting on verso , regarding his new book just published at Edinburgh; he discusses copies to be sent to William Strahan, Mrs. Montague, Mrs. Garrick, etc.--CAMPBELL, THOMAS. Autograph letter signed to the author Allan Cunningham, n.p., 3 September n.y., one page, 8vo, inlaid, a letter of introduction for a cousin -- And five autograph letters signed of Francis Jeffrey, editor of the Edinburgh Review (2); John Gibson Lockhart, Scott's biographer (2); and John Wilson aka "Christopher North" (1).
