Oil on canvas - 26 x 25 cm - Unframed
Sadji - Western modernity with Eastern roots Despite his European interlude between 1937 and 1946 - he continues his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium - Eastern aesthetics and culture will always remain the basis for Sadji's work. His rebellious character, however, pushes him to exceed the lines of the classical realistic style conventional in his home country. Gradually he puts aside his academic principles and starts experimenting, inspired by modern Western movements such as post-impressionism and expressionism that he gets to know in Belgium. Sadji's masterly application of ink and watercolour results in bursting vitality and splendour. He tries to capture his great love for simple moments from daily life and nature in a haze of light. At the same time he uses a very delicate style, reminiscent of his Oriental roots. The warm palette, the unbounded touch of the brush and the original way in which he connects Eastern tradition with Western modernity were already appreciated by art lovers at the time, and do so even more today.
