.45-70, 32.625" barrel, S/N 369657 (mfg. ca1887). Blued finish, color case hardened breech block, smooth straight-gripped walnut stock. Breech block marked US / MODEL / 1873. Lock marked with {Spread-Winged Eagle} and US / SPRINGFIELD. Barrel with V / P / {Eagle Head} / P proofs. Low arch breech, two-piece triggerguard, grooved trigger, solid buttplate, 3-click tumbler. 1884 pattern rear sight, musket type front sight that serves as lug for angular bayonet. Incorrect cleaning rod. Stock with long comb and short, thick wrist, showing traces of an SWP / 188? cartouche on the counterpane and a very weak firing proof P behind the triggerguard. Lower sling swivel replaced, upper and stacking swivel in place. Provenance:From the Collection of Charlie Hinton Condition: Good. Shows moderate wear with some traces of finish blending with a plum brown patina. Metal mostly smooth with some scattered oxidation and light pitting, markings in metal clear, weak in wood. Mechanically functional, good bore is moderately oxidized with strong rifling and some light pitting. Stock worn with some wood loss on the reverse at the front of the receiver and a chip and small crack at the rear of the lock. Wood shows numerous bumps, dings and mars and some old added finish.
