Title: Superb album of 75 photographs of the sights, scenes, and people of Egypt Author: Place: Rome Publisher: Alinari & Cook Date: 1890s Description: Album containing 75 albumen photographs, 10½x8" or the reverse, tipped at the corners into slots on the pages of a period photo album. Album 13½x10¼", tan linen. Also includes 24 images of Greek ruins and 4 smaller images of Greece. Label of Italian photographers Alinari & Cook insider front cover. A superb collection of images, the prints not laid down or pasted as more typically encountered. Many captioned by hand in pencil on the album sheets, some captioned in the negative. Scenes of Cairo, the Pyramids, the Sphinx, Hathor Temple and the Dendera complex, Luxor, Karnak, Medinet Habu, Edfu, Aswan, scenes along the Nile and several images depicting the people of Egypt, some with children, animals, etc. Some of the photos are signed in the image: Beato, Zangaki and Arnoux. The images of Greece are mostly of Athenian ruins. Original owner's name, Lily H. Pauleiner(?) in pencil on front endpaper, dated 1891-92. Lot Amendments Condition: Cloth just lightly worn; album pages detached from binding as a unit; a few of the images with short tears but overall a fine collection of prints. Item number: 288928
