Transferring to the 4th Battalion in India in January 1886, he was actively employed in Upper Burma 1887-89, and returned to the U.K. in January 1890 - which period witnessed him being imprisoned for 28 days for being found asleep at his post. Day was transferred to the Army Reserve in August 1891.
