The MONSTER No. 1 Publisher: Fiction House [Indicia: Flying Stories, Inc.] Date Published: January, 1953 Description: VG+ (4.5). Spine stress, light handling creases to covers, a few short tears and edge nicks, bottom corner of cover creased, sun shadow to back cover, camphor smell. Cream pages. Cover: Maurice Whitman. Art: Anthony D'Amado, Jerry Grandenetti?, uncredited others. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 4.0 sold for $350 in 10/21 and a 5.0 sold for $434 in 12/22. Whitman's Sample-Her: A Mr. Hyde wannabe clubs cops with his cudgel as he makes off with a frightened maiden whose tightly-laced corset barely contains her voluptuousness. Cover artist Maurice Whitman specialized in sexually-charged scenes of women in peril, a penchant that served him well at Fiction House, where sci-fi and spooky scenarios were often just a pretext to peddle cheesecake art to randy readers. Enjoying the Sale? Order a fully-illustrated softcover catalogue for 30 bucks. Only about 100 copies were printed and they're going fast. To reserve a copy, contact PBA's Director of Comics: ivan@pbagalleries.com. Consign to PBA Galleries.
