Beardwell, October 7 1710, number 2403, folio sheet, mentioning a "Cricket-Match in the Parish of Westerham" during an account of the Case of David Polhill, of Otford, who while at the match had, allegedly, spoken in justification of "The Horrid Murder of King Charles the First". With an issue of The Daily Post for Wednesday, August 19, 1730, including a 12-line account of "a great Cricket Match ... play'd at Kennington Common, between Eleven young Gentlemen of London against the like number of Surry...." This reference to a match at Westerham, Kent, is among the earliest in any periodical. (2)
