The images were the same as in the book except for two, which are larger than in the book. The paper is Rives BFK 250 gram weight and sized 20 x 16 inches. The book was presented with a title page in a cloth portfolio box. The prints were signed and numbered by the artist, an edition of 20 sets was sold with the book. These very high quality offset lithographs were published by the Arion Press. There was a later edition published by Counterpoint Press, Washington. It is this edition that is included in the sale. Provenance: The vendor's former partner was working in San Francisco for a different press that was involved in publishing a later copy of The Physiology of Taste published at a much cheaper price. He acquired all the lithographs that are included in the sale. Thiebaud is a major American artist now in his nineties. He was particularly influenced by the work of Morandi, as can be seen by his acute powers of observation. His watercolours and paintings fetch hundreds of thousands of dollars.
