(Thomas Littleton Powys, 4th Baron) Coloured Figures of the Birds of the British Islands, 7 vol., second edition, [one of 450 sets], list of subscribers, photogravure portrait frontispiece, 421 chromolithographed or hand-coloured lithographed plates, mostly after Archibald Thorburn and J.G. Keulemans with a few after W.Foster and G.E.Lodge, mounted on linen stubs throughout, tissue guards, plates and text numbered in pencil in upper outer corner, some light foxing, mostly marginal or to text, handsome later dark green morocco, by Bickers & Son, spines gilt in compartments with bird motifs, t.e.g., inner gilt dentelles, very slight rubbing to joints, [Anker 308; Fine Bird Books, p.119; Nissen IVB 563], large 8vo, 1891-97. *** This edition has a smaller print run than the first, which commenced in 1885, with some of the early parts reprinted and improved. The remaining parts of both editions were published simultaneously, the work being completed by Osbert Salvin after Lilford's death.
