The hystory, writtone by Thucidides the Athenyan, of the warre, whiche was betwene the Peloponesians and the Athenyans, translated oute of Frenche into the Englysh language by Thomas Nicolls, first edition in English, black letter, title within elaborate historiated woodcut border, woodcut initials, without errata f. (as often), occasional light marginal browning or finger-soiling, ink markings to title in an early hand, title strengthened at inner margins, bookplate and ink stamp to title verso, handsome 19th century hard vellum, spine darkened, minor wear, an attractive copy, [STC 24056], folio, [William Tylle], 1550. ⁂ One of the earliest translations of Greek literature. Thucydides recounts the 5th-century B.C. war between Athens and Sparta and analyses the political and moral policies that fueled the combat.
