First edition of the third Oz title. First state with advertisements facing half-title & on last page listing two titles: The Land of Oz and John Dough and the Cherub; illustration on p.[221] in color; pictorial endpapers. In this copy, the "O" in "Ozma," line five of the Author's Note on p.11, is present; apparently it dropped out at some point of the first press run, indicating this to be an early copy. Pp. 135-[136], [153]-154 and [221]-222 are all integral; Hanff and Greene indicate that there was apparently smudging or offset to the coloring of those pages which occurred during printing and stacking of the sheets, and the worst of them were excised and replaced after the books were assembled. There is no smudging to the leaves in question in this copy. In the primary binding, with "The Reilly &/ Britton Co." in large and small capitals at foot of spine. Hanff & Greene III; Plate 28.
