Two visible inspection cartouches are present on the counterpane of the stock. Converted to percussion via the "French", or drum bolster method with the addition of a civilian-style percussion hammer. The work is typical of many alterations performed in the South during the early days of the American Civil War. Condition: Good. Metal cleaned to a pewter gray patina with scattered surface oxidation, minor roughness, and some pitting. Mechanically functional, good bore. Stock sanded, with scattered bumps and dings, and the backstrap slightly proud of the stock.
