United States 1915-S Panama-Pacific Five Piece Set in Presentation Case, NGC and CAC A highly attractive set of the five coins issued at the Panama Pacific Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915 to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal and to aid in the resurrection of the City from the 1906 earthquake, presented in the original fitted case of issue with descriptive card. All have been examined, certified and graded by NGC Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and further examined by CAC Certified Acceptance Corporation. Comprising: Half Dollar Silver. Mint State 62 NGC Full dark frosting covers both surfaces with bold strikes. With limited sales of only 27,134 and short duration of sales this is certainly considered a limited and popular Silver Commemorative. Graded and encapsulated by NGC MS62 population 271. One Dollar Gold. Mint State 62 NGC and CAC Well struck example with strong details and pleasing yellow tones. Approximately 15,000 minted and sold. Graded and encapsulated by NGC MS62 population 429. Quarter Eagle. Mint State 66+ NGC and CAC True GEM Choice example with lovely golden tones and satiny luster. A mere 6,749 pieces were sold before being withdrawn from sale placing this coin at the pinnacle of the present population. Graded and encapsulated by NGC MS 66+ population in this high grade 556. Fifty Dollar Gold Round. Mint State 65 and CAC Magnificent GEM example of this impressive coin exhibiting bright yellow luster, frosty tones and strong overall details, enhance the beauty of this show piece, seeing is believing. Of the original 1500 minted only 483 pieces were actually sold, the remainder were melted creating a very limited issue. Graded and encapsulated Mint State 65 NGC population 65 Fifty Dollar Gold Octagonal. NGC MS 63+ and CAC With the absence of virtually no wear this example deserves the grade of 63 with sublime honey tones and satiny luster. Just 645 sold from the full distribution of 1500 again with the unsold pieces being melted. Graded and encapsulated by NGC Mint State 63+ population 115. It should be mentioned that in order to produce these large $50 coins a special hydraulic press weighing 14 tons was shipped in from the Philadelphia Mint to enable a special striking ceremony at the Exposition. A Choice to Gem Graded set nestled in the original case which shows little apparent damage, with bright gold printing on the purple satin fabric interior. Accompanied by the descriptive card to complete this original and venerable set, very often referred to as the pinnacle of Commemorative issues. The set is listed on the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation Registry site under The Rose Collection.
