Mid to late 19th century A fold-out album of yakusha-e and musha-e, mounted with the complete set of fifty oban tate-e prints and one sheet of mokuroku (table of contents) entitled `Hakkenden Inu no Soushi no uchi' (The biographies of the Eight Dog Heroes), each sheet depicting an okubi-e of an actor enacting a different role of whom eight of the main characters are reflecting eight of the fundamental virtues of Confucianism, based upon the epic novel by Kyokutei Bakin, `Nanso Satomi Hakkenden', dated Kaei 5 mizunoe-ne nen juichigatsu kichizitsu (an auspicious day in 1852), engravers' seals, Yokokawa Takejiro, Tsushita Shojiro and Sugawa Sennosuke, censors' seals including Hama, Mera and Watanabe, published by Tsutaya Kichizo, signed Kunisada ga; one hexaptych and one musha-e triptych by Kuniyoshi of the battles of Kawanakajima and Ichinotani; another triptych by Kunitsuna of the Heike and Genji wars; and the last triptych by Yoshitora depicting the Battle of Kawanakajima; variously published by Hayashi, Yamamoto and Sagamiya Fujiyoshi, respectively signed Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga, Kunitsuna ga and Yoshitora ga, contained in a wood storage box.
