Mid 19th century An album mounted with 49 prints from the series Taiheiki Eiyuden (Heroic stories from the Taiheiki), a chronicle of medieval Japan (1534-1582) about the two famous war-lords Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi who succeeded in reunifying Japan under a strong centralized power, published by Yamamotoya Heikichi; and 12 prints from the series Meiko Hyakuyuden (Legends of a hundred heroes of renown), depicting historical portrait-biographies of warriors such as Taira no Tomomori, Tomoejyo, the Empress Jingo Kogo and Sato Tadanobu, published by Izumiya Ichibe, with various Nanushi censors' seals, Mera, Murata and Hama; signed Ichiyusai Kunisyoshi ga and Chooro Kuniyoshi ga. Oban each sheet approx. 35.2cm x 24½cm (13¾in x 9 5/8in).
