The History of Oregon, Geographical and Political. 127, [1] pp. Folding frontispiece map. [BOUND AFTER]: [Alexander Kinglake]. Eothen, or Traces of Travel. Both New York: William H. Colyer, 1845. 8vo (210 x 132 mm). Period half sheep and marbled boards, red morocco spine label. Map trimmed into top longitude border and with some foxing, title-page darkened, endpapers foxed, binding rubbed; still, very attractive, fresh and unsophisticated. First edition of this rare work written at the time of the Oregon boundary controversy. It contains the narrative of Peter Burnett (later governor of California) and Streeter notes that "this and the Overton Johnson narrative published a year later, in 1846, are the only known contemporaneous accounts of the 1843 emigration published within a few years of the event."
