Edward Wormley (1907-1995) for Dunbar Clean Line Sideboard and Cabinet, Berne, Indiana, c. 1960, ebonized oak and oak cabinet with two folding doors, brass pulls, interior with two adjustable shelfs on right two drawers and shelf on left, Dunbar metal label, ht. 30 1/2, wd. 36, dp. 18 1/2, two-part sideboard, the upper section with four glazed doors, two glass shelves, four drawers, base with inset "slate" top, four oak doors opening to interior with two adjustable shelves on right and on left two drawers and one adjustable shelf, Dunbar metal label, ht. 80, wd. 65 1/2, dp. 20 1/4 in. Note: Wormley was an American modern furniture designer. In 1926 he studied briefly at the Art Institute of Chicago and then worked as an interior designer for Marshall Fields & Company. In 1944, while working for Dunbar, Wormley led their Modern focus incorporating European and Scandinavian influences into their lines. The result was furniture that was sophisticated yet mainstream, and very successful.
