1924 EVEREST EXPEDITION - NOEL E. ODELL (1890-1987) A collection of letters to Noel E. Odell and other documents from the aftermath of the 1924 expedition, 1924-1925, including two autograph letters signed by Francis Younghusband, altogether approximately 330 pages, various sizes . The letters from Younghusband, one of the great Central Asian explorers and an inspiration for the early Everest expeditions, congratulate Odell immediately on his return to Britain, and consult him about a choice of Himalayan photographs. As well as some of the practical loose ends of the expedition, such as Odell's notes of 'Everest Kit Expenses', and a letter from Bovril Limited in response to Odell's criticisms of the special food they had supplied, the collection contains a number of reminiscences of Mallory and Irvine ('If ever the super man had arrived upon this mundane plane, it was in the person of George Leigh-Mallory'). The remainder of the collection is chiefly concerned with Odell's extensive series of lectures on the expedition. [ With ] The script, annotated and signed by Odell, of a 1936 BBC radio transmission 'A Scrapbook for 1924', in which he describes his last glimpse of Mallory and Irvine: 'I noticed far away on a snow slope a tiny object, moving. A second object followed'. With a collection of letters relating to a subsequent broadcast talk on 'Mountaineering Today'.
