Beschreibung:

“A car which is a joy to handle and which, in its perfection of workmanship and finish is also an example of engineering at its finest level. It is inspiring to realise that this leading expression of the art of building automobiles should be produced by British designers and workpeople.” So eulogised the Technical Editor of “The Motor” after a 500 mile road test of the 40/50hp Phantom III in September 1936, no doubt significantly influenced by the all-new independent front suspension on this model. The new V12 7.3 litre engine reflected the company’s experience in constructing engines of this configuration for aircraft such as the Supermarine S6B Seaplane, for it adopted advanced materials and design techniques such as ‘skeleton’ cylinder blocks with wet liners and aluminium alloy cylinder heads. Chassis no.3AZ72 was sold to Windovers Ltd of Conduit Street, London, for their esteemed customer, Alfred Sainsbury Esq of 41 Cadogan Square, London SW1. He selected Windovers bespoke Saloon with Division coachwork and took delivery in September 1936. The next recorded owner was a C.S. Pollock of Crowborough, Sussex, in 1947 and the car is known to have remained in the U.K. until at least 1960. In more recent years the car has been part of the famous Max Lips Collection in Holland and has been on museum display there. This attractive car is presented in dark green over silver grey livery and is equipped with Lucas P100 headlamps, matching front-mounted trumpet horns and a Notek centre fog light. The Windovers coachwork is furnished with grey leather upholstery, generally well presented, and with wind-down glass division, opening windscreen and the usual fine appointments in the way of vanity units and courtesy lights. Following a period of museum display this car will need the usual careful recommissioning. It is offered with copies of Factory Order and Build sheets and its original registration number, CYX 523, which it carries, is noted in standard reference works and will substantiate an application for re-instatement of its period registration number.
