For much of its existence in the North American market, Buick has been marketed as a premium brand, selling luxury vehicles positioned above General Motor's mainstream brands such as Chevrolet, while below the flagship luxury Cadillac division. Buick has the distinction of being the oldest active American marque of automobile, and was the company that established General Motor's in 1908. The Buick Straight-8 engine (Fireball 8) was produced from 1931 to 1953 and sold in Buick models, replacing the Buick Straight-6 engine across the board in all models in 1931. Like many American automobile makers, Buick adopted the straight-8 engine in 1931 as a more powerful alternative to the previous engines. This Buick Straight-8 Special is quite simply magnificent, manufactured in 1939 and fitted with the legendary Buick 'Fireball' 8 cylinder engine, this car has had a total painstaking and loving restoration. No expense has been spared and as such this is an exemplary example, in the accompanying history file are bills and receipts for all of the work carried out including original brochures, handbooks, workshop manuals and original Buick memorabilia. When finished, this car was described as a 100 point concours example and to this day the vendor stands by that statement. Photographs normally flatter any car, however in this instance they struggle to show just how special this Buick is. The £50,000 restoration bills go some way to describe the attention to detail invested in this beautiful example but viewing is certainly recommend for the serious buyer wishing for only the very best.
