Beschreibung:

1940 German Occupation 'Swastika JERSEY 1940' overprint on GB 1940 Stamp Centenary 1½d brown. Superb fresh unmounted mint, pristine original gum. At the start of German Occupation, the commandant ordered all stocks of GB stamps be delivered to Bigwoods printers & overprinted with a swastika. However, after objections from Bailiff of Jersey & consultations with Berlin, a decision was made not to issue the overprint stamps & destroy all stock. All were then burnt, apart from several sets which were kept for archives or souvenirs. SG JW15 cat £3250+++, much under-catalogued as no examples have been on the market for very many years, & only several genuine examples exist (forgeries being plentiful!). The only unmounted mint example known to us. Great rarity of significant historical importance. 2013 Ceremuga photo cert
