Ford changed the game when it started offering cab-over-engine (COE) trucks in 1938. The artful packaging put the engine just under the driver's feet, pushing the cab forward the offering more space in the back for hauling. By 1941, Ford had started to modernize its design but WWII put all that on hold and left the models from that year to be produced, largely unchanged, for the next six years. It wasn't until 1948 that any major changes were made. This example is the largest COE model available at the time, the 158" (4,012mm) wheelbase Model 798W. Powered by a 100hp, 239 cubic inch (3,916cc) flathead V-8, the 1½ Ton truck is outfitted with the popular and versatile Platform body, finished in nicely restored timber. Likely delivered to Europe new, it features metric instrumentation. According to its Modern Dutch Registration, it has been in the Netherlands since 1953 and in the Hartogh Collection since 2014.
