* 435cc flat twin-cylinder * 4-speed manual transmission * Time-warp condition * Fun beach or weekend car * Iconic French cult car Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini, and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroën's quirky 2CV debuted in 1949. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favored car of the environmentally-concerned motorist. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew, eventually, to 602cc in 1961, the 2CV's performance remained modest at around 70mph flat-out, not that terminal velocity concerned the majority of its devotees, for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. Early 2CVs are now becoming increasingly sought after, with few original cars surviving the rigors of extreme mileage and maintenance on a shoestring budget. They have a purity and charm that gradually disappeared on later variants. Recording approximately 31,000 kilometers at the time of cataloging, the current owner recently acquired this early and beautifully preserved example of Citroën's 2CV from a Dutch collection where it had resided since 1991. Prior to that, this Citroën enjoyed a small number of owners in France. It has become increasingly hard to find any 2CV in such good condition, particularly here in the US. Finished in pale blue with matching blue/white check upholstery to the seats, the original linen roof and interior remain in remarkably well-preserved condition. Nice touches include the twin horse mascots on the bonnet (for Deux Chevaux of course), yellow headlamp lenses and its Dutch license plates. As the quintessential French petit voiture, the 2CV remains an icon still today. An early car such as this captures the essence of the model and all the more desirable for it. To find a better one you'll probably have to go to France. Offered with a Certificate of Title.
