1956 JAGUAR XK140 MC ROADSTER Chassis No. S-812344 DN Engine No. G-7551-8S Pearl grey with navy blue leather interior and grey top Engine: six cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, 3,442cc, 210bhp at 5,750rpm; Gearbox: four-speed manual; Suspension: front, independent, rear, semi-elliptic leaf springs; Brakes: four wheel drum. Left hand drive. October 1954 saw the introduction of the XK140 with major changes in appearance and engineering to the model. The classic lines were retained but were now protected by sturdier bumpers and a tougher grill. A chrome strip ran down the length of the hood, and another on the rear trunk lid drew attention to the medallion in the middle proclaiming the Le Mans wins of the marque. The rear bumper wrapped around the fenders and sported overriders. Inside, the front seat and dashboard remained the same, but with considerably more legroom than the XK120 because the engine block was moved forward on the chassis. There was also space behind the front seat. Moving the engine forward led to better straight line stability, and with the adoption of the Alford and Alder rack-and-pinion steering came a much more direct response to the wheel. The Special Equipment models designated "MC", like the car represented here, were fitted with wire wheels and Lucas FT576 foglamps mounted above the front bumper. With the C-Type head, developed for the C-Type Le Mans race car, the bhp was raised to 210 at 5,750rpm. Also with the C-Type head came a dual exhaust system which used two separate silencers, with pipes running through holes in the chassis cross members and emerging below the rear overrider. This XK140 MC Roadster was originally supplied through Jaguar Cars New York, having left the factory on 16 April 1956. It is believed to be a full matching numbers car that has now been completely and professionally restored to the highest standards by marque experts, Vantage Motors of Stamford, Connecticut. The body was removed from the chassis, disassembled, stripped and refinished. All suspension components were also stripped, refinished, assembled and installed with new bushings. The gearbox, differential and motor were all disassembled, overhauled, refinished and assembled. Additionally, the motor was completely balanced and assembled utilizing all new Jaguar components. For added power, a pair of 2½in SU sand cast carburetors were installed to compliment the larger Jaguar intake and exhaust valves, competition valve springs and performance camshafts. A new wiring harness was installed and the brakes entirely replaced, the lines having been fabricated using copper nickel and installed with all new fittings and flex hoses. Further, the wheel cylinders, master and clutch cylinders had bores sleeved in stainless steel to compliment a stainless steel exhaust system. This XK140 has been beautifully repainted in original Jaguar 'pearl grey' and retrimmed throughout in navy blue Connolly leather upholstery with new carpets and new grey Stayfast soft top, side curtains and tonneau cover. Complete restoration receipts in excess of $140,000 and Jaguar Heritage Certificate accompany the car. We thoroughly recommend close inspection of this finely presented XK140 MC Roadster.
