The car has been cherished and well maintained over the last 54 years and was treated to a restoration and re-spray in 1996 (invoices on file). Repainted bright red, the AC still presents very well apart from minor blemishes where wing mirrors were attached. The brightwork is in good order, as are the door and window seals, while the front and rear sidelights and 'tripod' headlights (with halogen bulb conversion) are new. The interior was re-trimmed throughout in black leather; the interior wood embellishment re-veneered; and West-of-England cloth headlining and Wilton carpeting installed. Items renewed include the interior and exterior door handles; window winders; pull handles; door locks and striker panels; and sound deadening material. The tachometer and odometer were re-calibrated by Speedograph Richfield, but the mileage was not altered (the 50,546 total is believed correct). Other notable interior features include a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel and period Philips head unit below the glove compartment. The original engine was rebuilt with new bearings on a standard crankshaft, new camshaft rollers, and stock 9:1 compression pistons, while the motor has been upgraded with electronic ignition, a Kenlowe electric fan, and an oil cooler with thermostat. A new SU fuel pump and a stainless steel fuel tank were fitted and the radiator re-cored. The water pump has been rebuilt and upgraded and new silicone hoses used throughout, while the entire exhaust system is stainless steel. Boasting overdrive on third and fourth gears, the original gearbox was overhauled and modified to take a Jaguar MkVII remote gear selector. Refurbishment of the suspension and drive train included improved shock absorber top mounts; new bearings; Metalastic bushes throughout; and reconditioned prop and half shafts with new roller spiders. The hydraulics were upgraded with new Kunifer and Aeroquip brake and clutch lines; new slave and master cylinders; and reconditioned brake callipers with new pistons and seals.
