The first example rolled off the production line in Dearborn, Michigan on 9th March 1964 and was introduced to the public at the New York World's Fair on 17th April 1964. It was, and remains, one of the most successful product launches in automotive history. The Mustang sold over one million units in its first 18 months on the market and its legend lives on with revised models still in production today after 50 years. Records show that this is a genuine 289cui V8 Mustang built at the Ford Metuchen plant, New Jersey USA. The car was imported and registered here in the UK in 1997 and has had six owners in total, the last owner since 2014. Since being in the UK the Mustang has undergone work that included a gearbox rebuild, fitment of a new off side front wing and overhaul of front suspension, power steering and a new soft top, in addition the car has recently been fitted with powered disc brakes to the front axle and the hood mechanism has also been overhauled. Offered in good order throughout, the paintwork presents nicely although is showing some age related blemishes and has faded in areas. Mechanically the car runs well, the auto gearbox is good with ‘jolt’ free changes and the engine runs as it should. Fitted with an additional electric fan, the Mustang has recently been treated to a complete wheel alignment and has an MoT valid until September 2021. Described to be in good running order, this Mustang is a well maintained, usable example. Supplied with the current UK V5C registration document, Mustang owner’s handbook and a history file with some maintenance invoices.
