1967 JAGUAR 420 Châssis n° PIF26030BW - Troisième main - Voiture alliant classe et performances - L'aboutissement de la lignée de la MkII En 1962, la Jaguar MkII, alors berline la plus rapide du monde, souffre d'un essieu arrière rigide, tandis que la Type E et la MkX bénéficient de roues arrière indépendantes. Pour y remédier, William Lyons lance en 1964 un nouveau modèle, la Type S. Sa nouvelle suspension arrière lui assure un meilleur comportement que la MkII, et elle gagne en habitabilité grâce à un pavillon redessiné. Le coffre prend le style de celui de la MkX, l'habitacle conserve la finition luxueuse des berlines Jaguar, riche en bois et en cuir. Ses performances brillantes vont encore s'améliorer à partir de 1966 avec le six cylindres 4,2 litres. Elle prend alors l'appellation 420, l'avant étant modifié pour ressembler à celui de sa grande sœur la 420 G. Elle constitue ainsi l'ultime aboutissement de cette glorieuse lignée de berlines Jaguar, à laquelle succèdera la famille des XJ. La Jaguar 420 que nous présentons a été vendue neuve par Jaguar à Paris (copie de la facture disponible), où elle a toujours été immatriculée. Lors de son achat en 2008 chez Classic Car par son actuel propriétaire, le compteur affichait 76 000 km, alors présenté comme son kilométrage d'origine, probable compte tenu de l'état général de la voiture. Entretenue chez le spécialiste Jaguar SPR, elle a bénéficié de travaux importants pour environ 8 000 € (factures) : train avant, freins, pompe à eau, allumage, pont arrière, silentblocs, échappement inox, ciel de toit. Véritable passionné, le propriétaire tient à ce que ses autos puissent assurer de longs voyages, comme celui effectué jusqu'au Portugal, pour les vacances. Nous avons pu vérifier cette qualité en conduisant la voiture, qui s'est révélée sans reproches : confortable et magnifiquement équipée, douce et silencieuse, elle offre tout le punch du moteur XK, bien servi par la boîte automatique à double gamme "drive". La 420 permet de s'offrir le plaisir d'une MkII améliorée, pour un prix très inférieur. Wanting to improve on this, William Lyons launched a new model in 1964 - the S -Type. Incorporating the newly developed rear suspension ensured improved handling, and the redesigned roof provided a more spacious interior. The boot was modelled on the Mk X, and the interior was in keeping with all luxurious Jaguar saloons, featuring plenty of wood and leather detailing. Exceptional performance was improved further in 1966 with the introduction of the six cylinder 4.2-litre model. This became known as the 420, having been designed to resemble its big sister, the 420G. It embodies the ultimate evolution of this wonderful line of Jaguar saloons, which was succeeded by the XJ series. The Jaguar 420 offered here was sold new by Jaguar in Paris (copy of the original invoice available), where the car has always been registered. When it was purchased by the present owner from Classic Car in 2008, the odometer recorded 76,000km, thought to be the genuine mileage and in keeping with the general condition of the car. Maintained by specialists SPR Jaguar, it has had some €8,000 of work undertaken (bills available) : front suspension, brakes, water pump, ignition, rear axle, silent blocks, stainless steel exhaust, headliner.
