Powered by the superseded 356's 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine, the Porsche 912 was a more affordable alternative to the 911. A little over 30,000 were built by Karmann, all on the original short-wheelbase (2,211mm) chassis between 1965 and 1968, and today the 912 is a relative rarity when compared with its better known sibling. A desirable five-speed model, this left-hand drive 912 spent the major part of its life in Southern California before returning to Europe some years ago. Sound and rust-less, it benefited from a full restoration carried out between late 2009 and early 2011 in Norfolk by the scrupulously careful and talented Kim Cairns, assisted by Roger Bray, well known in UK Porsche circles.
