Le premier faisait son apparition en 1963, suivi trois ans plus tard d'un Spider nommé "Duetto". Son dessin, signé Pininfarina, est d'une grande élégance et son profil tout en finesse est souvent comparé à un os de seiche. Son moteur double arbre sera décliné en 1600 et 1750, la version destinée aux États-Unis bénéficiant d'une alimentation par injection Spica. Les archives Alfa Romeo confirment que la voiture que nous proposons est une 1750 Spider Veloce version USA (série 105.62), sortie d'usine le 8 septembre 1969 et destinée à être expédiée à Alfa Romeo, à Newark, aux États-Unis. Or, d'après le propriétaire, ce Spider n'a jamais quitté l'Europe : il aurait été en effet acheté par un militaire américain qui souhaitait l'exporter dans son pays lors de son retour, ce qui finalement ne s'est pas produit. La voiture est restée longtemps aux Pays-Bas, et le propriétaire actuel en a fait l'acquisition il y a quatre ans environ pour en faire cadeau à son épouse. Il cherchait un modèle à injection, sachant que, lorsque le moteur est bien réglé, c'est une version très performante. De couleur verte ("Verde Vivo") comme à l'origine, cette voiture a été repeinte mais présente une carrosserie en état d'origine exceptionnellement bien préservée. L'intérieur est celui d'origine, en simili noir, et présente une belle patine. Le beau volant bois est superbe, le tableau de bord est équipé d'un autoradio Philips et le compteur affiche 57 075 miles (91 850 km). Le compartiment moteur et le coffre sont impeccables. A la suite de son achat, cette voiture a bénéficié d'une révision effectuée par le mécanicien du propriétaire. Il n'est guère fréquent de croiser un Spider Duetto dans un tel état d'origine. Plus rare et plus élégante que la version suivante à pan arrière coupé, cette voiture est une occasion de profiter à la fois de la brillante mécanique Alfa Romeo et d'une agréable conduite au soleil. However, according to the owner, this Spider never left Europe: it was, in fact, purchased by an American soldier who planned to take the car back to his country on his return, which ultimately didn't happen. The car remained for long in the Netherlands, and the current owner acquired it there about four years ago as a gift for his wife. He looked for a fuel injected version, knowing that when the engine is set, it's a very powerful version.
