The very striking Swiss Monteverdis were the brainchild of Peter Monteverdi, who reasoned that it should be possible to compete with supercar makers such as Maserati with a well engineered coupe using the compact and very powerful Chrysler V8 powerplant. The first Monteverdi appeared at the 1967 Frankfurt Motor Show, with a relatively straightforward chassis and that the tireless Chrysler V8 driving through an automatic gearbox to a, by now, rather rare de Dion rear axle - no doubt in the interests of improved traction. The first cars were two-seater coupes and cabriolets designed by Frua, built by Fissore, but in 1969 the 375L came along, a rather more ambitious two-plus two coupe, again styled by Fissore. There was more room inside and the elegant 375L could see 160mph powered by Chrysler's seven-litre Hemi. The vendor purchased this car in the mid 1980's. It is understood that it is still in regular use and is described as in 'very good order' with an indicated mileage of 82,600km. However there are a few minor blemishes to the paintwork and the leather interior is slightly worn. With its relatively easy to maintain American V8 engine and other well-tried mechanical components, it provides an intriguing blend of very high performance and grace with high reliability.
