Interested parties should note that contrary to our original description, this vehicle has actually covered 141,000 miles (Originally advertised as 41,000 miles) The first 'S-Class' Mercedes arrived in 1968 in the form of the 280 S and 280 SE, both of which were large, comfortable sports saloons offering powerful touring capabilities and luxurious interiors, seating five occupants. The styling was updated using a thoroughly modern design featuring the attractive stacked layout of the headlights; a popular look during the period. Although the 280 was usually powered by a 2.8-litre, straight-six engine, Mercedes-Benz added a V8-engined 280 SE to the model range. The 280 SE 3.5 had a 3.5-litre V8 engine and came with both automatic and manual transmission, as well as power steering. These saloons were well equipped and extremely powerful; the 280 SE 3.5 would reach a top-speed of 125mph and offered effortless high-speed cruising, whilst ensuring a comfortable ride. Between 1971 and 1972, Mercedes-Benz produced 11,309 examples and they have been consistently popular with collectors and enthusiasts alike. This 280 SE Saloon has remarkably covered just 41,996 miles since new and during this time, has been clearly very well cared for. The low mileage can be verified by MoT test certificates and service book entries and we can ascertain from the history that the car has covered very few miles specifically in the last ten years; however, it has always had an MoT and been driven to help keep the car in sound condition. The 3.5-litre, V8 engine starts and settles on the button as you would expect and the interior is as new with the important woodwork also in very good condition. The exterior and chrome-work are a credit to the owner's care and ability to shield this example from the English weather; garaged for all its life, there is little-to-no sign of rust. The car comes supplied with a V5C registration document, various invoices and an MoT test certificate until September 2016 with no advisories. With prices appreciating for the W108/109 models, this United Kingdom delivered 3.5-litre example is competitively priced and offers excellent value in today's market place.
