1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 SEL (4.5 litre) Lot Number130 RegistrationBRU 194K Chassis Number10806312013573 Engine Number119-984-12-13573 Odometer reading37,795 miles Estimate£25,000 - £30,000 Print details Send this to a friend 3 more images The Mercedes-Benz W108 and W109 were luxury cars produced from 1965 through to 1972 and 1973 in North America only. The line was an update of the predecessor W111 and W112 fintail saloon. The W108 models were the 280S and 280SE, with production starting in November 1967. These replaced the 250S, 250SE and 300SE, however production of export-designated 250S would continue until March 1969. In January 1968, the model line was joined by yet another car, the 280SEL. The car had the longer wheelbase of the W109 but lacked the expensive and problematic pneumatic suspension and other features of the 300SEL. Hence the chassis code remained W108. This long wheelbase example of the W108 280, boasting the desirable 4.5 litre V8 engine, is in truly time warp condition. Originally registered in 1972, this example was imported into the UK in 1993. The now registered keeper, a Mrs Fowler, was left the car by her husband in 2019 and it was described as his pride and joy having been garaged throughout its life. Sitting in the back on the comfortable black leather seats, the extra leg room is perfect for longer journeys and the torque from the V8 is ample in modern day traffic. The chromework and paint work is equally impressive for what is a very desirable long wheelbase saloon. Offered with a V5C registration document and detailed UK ownership, this is a great looking Mercedes-Benz of the era when Mercedes-Benz made the best cars by far. Interested parties should note that this vehicle has just been issues a new MoT test certificate by SS Motors, a Mercedes-Benz specialist.
