Known best as manufacturers of the Isetta bubble car, Iso later became bona-fide supercar constructors in 1962 with the launch of the Giotto Bizzarrini-designed Rivolta coupé at the Turin Motor Show. The styling was carried out at Carrozzeria Bertone and penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the power came from a 5.4 litre Chevrolet V8. The four-door Fidia, longer in wheelbase by approximately 150mm, was a more practical proposition than the two-door Rivolta on which it was based. Originally conceived as the S4 and introduced in 1967, the Fidia's four-door body was airy, graceful, purposeful and sleek, continuing Iso's leadership in advancing automobile design. The 5.4 litre Chevrolet engine was fitted initially but towards the end of production, it was swapped for the 5.8-litre, Ford V8 engine. Iso's proven underpinnings included independent front suspension, deDion rear axle and four wheel, power-assisted, disc brakes. In total, 192 Fidias were produced and it is believed that in all only 16 were righthand drive (the first being sold to John Lennon in 1967), of which two were S4's and seven were Ford powered. This rare righthand drive car fitted with the Ford power unit has been owned by the same family since 1979. It was used often before being put into the family garage in the mid-1980s where it has rested ever since; there is an MoT test certificate from 1984 which is believed to be the last. It should be noted that, although for the first few years the engine was started and run occasionally, it has not moved now for about 15 years although the vendors inform us that the engine has not seized. They also assure us the car is complete and it comes supplied with a V5C registration certificate. This is a unique opportunity to restore a rare example of what was once one of the fastest four-door saloons in the world. A powerful American V8, wrapped up in a gorgeous Italian styled body; what more could one desire
