25,000 factory fitted upgrades Superb original example Matching numbers Porsche began experimenting with turbocharging technology on their racing cars during the late 1960s and, in 1972, began development on a turbocharged version of the 911. They originally needed to produce the car in order to comply with homologation regulations and had intended on marketing it as a street legal racer like the 1973 Carrera 2.7 RS. Ernst Fuhrmann adapted the turbo technology, originally developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM car, to the 3.0 litre flat six from the Carrera RS 3.0, creating what Porsche internally dubbed as a '930'. The Turbo’s characteristic flared wheel arches and ‘tea-tray’ rear spoiler had already been seen on the Carrera model, while the interior was the most luxurious ever seen in a 911, featuring leather upholstery, air conditioning and electric windows. In1978, the Turbo’s engine was enlarged to 3.3 litres, gaining an intercooler in the process; power increased to 300bhp and the top speed, of what was the fastest accelerating road car of its day, went up to 160mph. More refined than hitherto, yet retaining its high performance edge, the Porsche 930 Turbo sold in the thousands, arguably becoming the definitive sports car of its era. This absolutely superb matching numbers example presented in metallic brown with Pacca interior (sometimes known as Cognac), has had £25,000 worth of factory upgrades, which are fully documented in its substantial history file. It comes with all service books, manuals and its original tool kit, which is rare with models of this era. Factory options fitted when manufactured are air conditioning together with electric windows and the car also retains its original factory fitted stereo. These Turbo models offer exhilarating performance from their 3.3 litre engines, outperforming many modern sports cars today. They are highly sought after and are certainly on the bucket list for many collectors.
