Rare right hand drive Manual gearbox Named after the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa, the Maserati Kyalami was produced by the Italian manufacturer from 1976 to 1983. It was a new model rushed into production after Alejandro de Tomaso took helm of the company. De Tomaso had Pietro Frua take Tom Tjaarda's design of the De Tomaso Longchamp (itself inspired by the Mercedes 450 SLC) and modify the front and rear end to create a distinctive Maserati feel for the new car. The interior was also upgraded to incorporate classic Maserati elements such as the steering wheel and instrumentation. 210 Kyalami's were built between 1976 and 1983. Due to its rarity, very little was written in magazines about the Kyalami. However, direct owner experiences confirmed the fundamental validity of its design, with a well-balanced, stiff chassis offering excellent body control and an agile, very easy to control handling. The performance offered by the 4.9 litre V8 was characterised by the abundant power and torque delivered by the engine. This very rare right hand drive manual gearbox example, is presented in Rame Metallic with its original cream leather interior. A substantial history file accompanies the car which includes many receipts from previous work done by various Maserati specialists, Bill McGrath being one of them. There is also evidence on file confirming substantial work done on the engine in 2000 by Rossi Engineering, Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex. The car also comes with a driver’s manual and parts manual, which is rare to find and there is also documentation showing that the car has covered a mere 825 miles since 2010 having been laid up as part of a private collection for. The paintwork is in very good condition and according to the owner, this Maserati drives extremely well. This is a very desirable Italian classic which is practical and powerful, producing circa 290 horsepower from its 4.9 litre V8 and is truly a rare car from the Italian marque and particularly as it is right hand drive; it is surely destined for the discerning collector or someone passionate for the ultimate classic sports coupé. The car comes with its UK V5 documentation and a recent MoT certificate.
