Based on the three-door Sierra bodyshell, the Cosworth combined the standard 1,993cc Pinto engine's cylinder block with a twin-camshaft, 16-valve cylinder head and Garrett AiResearch turbocharger, the latter being deemed necessary to achieve a competitive power output for racing, which in time would amount to over 500bhp! Even in standard road trim the Cosworth produced a staggering 204bhp, its Weber-Marelli engine management system ensuring that the resulting stupendous performance was delivered with minimal turbo lag. Needless to say, the standard Sierra underpinnings were comprehensively up-rated to cope. A total of 6,021 was completed before production ceased in 1986, and today the model is one of the most sought-after of 1980s 'Performance Fords'. For some considerable time this 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth formed part of one of the largest and most famous private collections in Italy. Sold to the current owner in 2016, the car has been subject to a complete restoration, with care taken to preserve original features including the interior, etc; indeed, it is as clean underneath as on top.
