This uncompromising variant hadn’t been offered since 1959, a time when 356s were rolling out of the factory and the 911 was still five years from inception. The first 911 Speedster was displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1987 but it would be 16 months before production actually began in January 1989. Regular 911 Cabriolet bodyshells were used for the mechanically standard Speedster, these being equipped with a cut-down, more steeply raked aluminium framed windscreen and special frameless one-piece side windows. Both the standard narrow-body and wider Turbo shell were available in most markets although bizarrely only the latter could be specified in North America and Germany. Inside, the seat rails were dropped by 20mm, the seats themselves having been a combination of sport backs with standard lower sections. The rear seats were disposed of and the vacant area carpeted like the Club Sport, an optional storage box (again like that of the CS) having been a sensible upgrade. A manual heater and wind-down windows were fitted as standard. This magnificent, low mileage UK example was supplied to Porsche Colchester and finished in Guards Red with black hood and partial linen leather seats. Built in July 1989 this was one of the very last cars from the production line and as such has covered a mere 14,198 miles and represents a true collectors example. From new this stunning car was specified with option equipment including Recoil bumpers, limited slip differential, shortened gear lever, electric seats including heated driver seat, deletion of front and rear spoilers, body coloured seat piping and the luggage compartment trimmed in black velour carpet. This list was coupled to the optional Super Sport Equipment specification or Turbo Body as more commonly known. The first owner, Ray Fine Esquire of Hampstead, London, owned the car for four years until it passed to Mr. Langley of Ilford, Essex in April 1992 with just 2,650 miles covered. The next three owners accounted for a further 14 years before Mr. Roy Watson purchased the car on 6th July 2006, he owned it for seven years with a private registration 6535 RW. In 2013 Mr. Andrew Theodore William Sanson of Tonbridge Wells purchased the car before our current vendor in December 2015. The car is presented with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and letter of origin coupled to the original service book confirming 12 service stamps, the last was a full 24,000 mile service which included tappets and brake fluid change carried out by Porsche Leeds. Also accompanying the car is every MoT test certificate between 1993 and 2017 verifying the vehicles outstanding provenance, the original Porsche tyre compressor, tool kit, jack, spare wheel, a bespoke car cover, full book pack and even the Porsche Lackstift touch-up stick. The car has been prepared with a clear no expense spared philosophy throughout its life, resulting in this Porsche 911 3.2 Turbo Body Speedster being nothing short of outstanding, a true classic iconic collectors example that has to be one of the very best available.
