The W126 model employed a new range of light alloy V8 engines and a more aerodynamic shape over the previous S-Class, significantly improving fuel consumption. Initially available in two versions, the 380 SEC and 500 SEC, each powered by a single-overhead cam V8 engine with Bosch electronic fuel injection and four-speed automatic transmission, the big Benz coupé enjoyed effortless performance. At the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show three new models were unveiled, the 420 SEC, 500 SEC and a new flagship badged the 560 SEC, along with further mechanical improvements including dual-range (Sport and Economy) automatic transmission, revised 15” alloy wheels and upgraded brakes. The lower body sills were redesigned, giving the SEC a cleaner look, while the 560 model benefited from 215/65 tyres, ABS, speed-sensitive suspension and various interior upgrades. The 560’s M117 V8 engine was rated at 300bhp, with 325lb/ft of torque on tap, resulting in a top speed of 150mph with acceleration to match. The car in our sale is the top of the range, with the most powerful engine available (5.6 litre rated at 300bhp). First registered on 1st August 1990, this flagship S-class Coupé is presented in Metallic Blue with cream leather trim and has been privately owned by the current owner for 15 years. Just five former keepers can be found on the logbook, the past two owners can account for motoring back to 1999 when the car had covered a mere 18,291 miles; it has been cherished ever since with a current mileage of a mere 31,113. With a fully detailed history file, this Mercedes-Benz has been cared for by main dealers or Mercedes-Benz specialists. Supplied with the V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until June 2023, this is an iconic flagship coupé loaded with 1990’s technology. Few of these remain on the road and hardly any in this condition with a silky smooth 5.5 litre V8 engine.
