The book's narrative begins, "The Battalion arrived at Windsor from Uffington at the end of manoeuvres, On September 16th, 1893. The following day being Sunday, a well-attended levee was held at the Kennels, and a list of names being provided by Caley, attempts were made to fit them to various hounds."
