Ayrton was one of the great sporting legends of the 20th century, supported by legions in his home country of Brazil. Cool, collected, and focused, the Formula 1 star has been widely regarded as the greatest racer of all time and the fastest on any racetrack. A car bearing his name must be imbued with the very same qualities, and for McLaren's 3rd offering in the Ultimate Series, the team at Woking (McLaren HQ) sought to create a road legal vehicle with the singular focus of delivering the quickest lap time possible. Bucking the trend of hybrid power, the Senna is free from the cumbersome weight of batteries and instead relies solely on the power of exploding gasoline and reciprocating pistons. The M840TR in the back of this Hypercar features a bumped-up displacement of 4.0 liters compared to its predecessors and is boosted by highly advanced electronically actuated twin scroll turbos. All very fitting considering Ayrtons first championship was won behind the wheel of the twin turbo Honda powered MP4/4. The McLaren feeds all 789 of its horses through a twin clutch transmission out to the rear wheels and delivers zero to sixty runs in a scant 2.8 seconds. Speed and power however are a common commodity these days. It is with braking and handling where the Senna charges forward. Almost 1800lbs of downforce is generated at speed by the summation of the aerodynamic surfaces. While the exterior styling can be described as divisive, there is no dissent to the fact that all of the various elements serve the explicit purpose of channeling the airflow around and even through the car. Hypercars are themselves hyperbolic in nature, and the Senna follows suit by sporting quite possibly the largest rear wing to grace the backside of a road legal automobile. With all of this air wrangled under the will of the aerofoils, it should come as no surprise that the braking forces delivered by the McLaren are immense. In conjunction with the Formula 1 derived 390mm carbon ceramic brakes all around, the Senna holds the record stopping distance from 200kph at just 100 meters- Truly a staggering feat. A complete carbon construction has further aided in keeping the weight down to just around 2,800lbs. All together, the Senna is a thoroughly responsive driver's delight. The Motorcar Offered The 2019 McLaren Senna available here left the Woking Assembly plant destined for the McLaren dealership in Chicago, Illinois. The United States has a long history of getting the short end of the stick when it comes to the specifications of supercars arriving on our shores. For perhaps the first time, this is not the case. The federalized Senna's do not have to meet the stringent EU noise restrictions and thus, the McLaren features a different exhaust setup from its European brethren. Keen observers will note the Rest of World vehicles feature a triple outlet setup containing an additional muffler and baffles. Here in the States, we get a less restrictive and lighter twin pipe setup that lets the Turbo V8 roar and whistle to its fullest potential. This is the sound of freedom. Car #197 of the just 500 examples being produced, the Senna on offer is finished in a menacing shade of MSO Graphite Grey; MSO being the McLaren Special Operations group responsible for delivering the most personal touches required from their esteemed clientele. Serving as contrast, the brake calipers and aerovanes are painted in bright Paris Blue accen
