Approx 74 x 124 in. Wool with double-applique cotton stars and cotton muslin hoist. Grommets are hand-stitched and appear to be replacements. There is a ring of jute around the hole that is then sewn over in a whip-stitch. Along the hoist is "JGS Schoch. 1876" in ink. The 38-star flag became official on July 4, 1877 with the admission of Colorado as a state. It would remain the official flag for 13 years. Condition: Numerous patches, both machine- and hand-sewn. A few tears and areas needing patching, but overall in good condition. Fabric feels stable. Slight foxing of white fabric, especially cotton stars and hoist.
