(From the Curious to the Extraordinary, 6th May 2021) A 19TH CENTURY HIPPO SKULL A 19TH CENTURY HIPPO SKULL comprised of the upper and lower jaw, of taxidermy interest 65cm long CITES Annex B Appendix II, no licence required to sell in the UK, however an export permit will be required if the buyer is outside of the UK. Provenance: Viktor Wynd’s Museum, London. Wynd says "Whilst, like Salvador Dali, my greatest obsession is with Elephant Skulls, I also have a soft spot for Hippo Skulls, one of the museum’s most prized treasures is a gold plated hippo skull that once belonged to Pablo Escobar, this one came from an old house in London some years ago and is just too big to fit anywhere – and perhaps one hippo skull is enough? You tell me?" The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & UnNatural History is a contemporary reinterpretation of a Pre-Enlightenment Wunderkabinett or Cabinet of Curiosities. It is the creation of artist and writer Viktor Wynd, who has just opened a Falmouth branch of his museum inside the National Maritime Museum. His most recent book 'The UnNatural History Museum' was published by Prestel in 2020.
